At 5:30 am today, Sept. 24, Susie and I left Charlestown, MA for Champaign, IL.
We traveled to our first overnight stop, Buffalo, NY. The trip took us 8 hours. That 8 hours includes a breakfast stop and 3 stops for the dogs to get out and move around. They were great!
Weather was good, sunny and cool. I drove the first 3 hours and Susie drove the rest.
We are at our pet friendly motel and the boys ate and are resting.

September 25, 2012
Today Susie and I drove from Buffalo, NY to Springfield, Ohio.
The drive was about 7 hours long. We stopped in Penn. to see Lake Erie and at a Cracker Barrel in Mansfield, Ohio for lunch. Took the dogs for a few walks also. They are being such good travelers!
Cooper is the most anxious of the three. Poor guy!
We are in a Ramada Limited tonight. Not fancy, but clean and allows dogs.
Tomorrow is the short driving day. Only about 3 1/2 hours left until we reach Urbana, Ill.
Late tomorrow we will do a walk through our new house. Closing is slated for Friday at 9am.
Susie will get to see the house. She is flying back to Boston early Thurs. afternoon.
I have a job interview at 10am on Thursday. Wish me luck! Need to work know that we have 2 mortgages to pay!

a week off
I spent last week at Jen and Dave's house in Milford, MA. I spent lots of time with Baby Jake. He is so adorable, sweet and smart! He plays with his toys and loves to watch Elmo do anything!
So I played with him, watched lots of HGTV and walked alot. My body feels better and I'm ready for the trip to Illinois.

Something bad
So, something bad finally happened. About 9 days ago, the buyers of our home in Montpelier backed out of the sale. For a day or two, we didn't know whether we would be able to go ahead and buy the house in Champaign, IL. Thank goodness Dick and the bank worked it out.
I had to ask for my job back, in case I had to stay until the house sold. Yes, I could have it back, thanks to the generosity of the O.M. Fisher Home, Inc., Board of Directors. Thankfully I didn't have to take them up on the offer, buying of the house in IL. is still on.
So, I decided that we should allow no one to take away our plans for our new life.
OK, the house is not sold, it's back on the market, but we are still moving ahead.
With the help of good friends, the house will be looked after.
Friends helped me through the last weekend there, greeting movers, cleaning, etc.
On Monday, after the van was packed, everything gone, I went through the upper level and vacuumed and washed the floors, one last time. Each room held so many memories, Molly as a baby, Susie in her window seat. Christmas trees, birthday parties, molly hiding in a kitchen cabinet.
Goodbye house, goodbye Montpelier!

In the right month!
Somehow it's September! Before this month is over, I will be living in our new home in Champaign, IL.
The movers are set. They have promised to be there early in the day of our closing.
These weeks seem bittersweet. I want to go, but the goodbyes to friends and places are hard.
Sue and I traveled to Parlin Pond in Maine on Labor Day weekend. Dick and I have gone every Labor Day for at least 20 yrs. Both my cousin and my sister have camps on the pond. My cousin's camp belonged to my Grandparents and the whole family spent many happy times there. I can see them all there, my parents, grandparents, my sisters and myself. Sudden death and life changes hadn't found us yet. For me, Parlin Pond is home. The woods I love fiercely. Even as a child, I imagined myself alone in a cabin there, writing a
novel that would astound the world. Still working on that!
So, Sue and I went. We kayaked the whole lake, more than once. I drank in the scenery; the water, the forests, the mountains, the loons, the quiet. This is my place and I share my grandfather's love of it.
I said good bye to my sister. I don't know when I'll see her again. Just the two of us left.
Yesterday there was a reception for me at Westview. Such kind words, such good friends, so many memories. I will carry them with me always-the people and the words.
Once again, I am leaving for a new life. I miss my husband, it will be good to be a family again. Just the way we started out 36 yrs. ago, just the two of us. And of course, three dogs!
